Why Should I Be Baptized?

If you've made a decision to follow Jesus, your next step is baptism. However, you may be wondering, "Why should I get baptized?" Here’s three reasons to take your next step in faith with baptism.

1. It is a command from Jesus.

One of the primary reasons why Christians should be baptized is that Jesus commanded it. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus tells His disciples, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." This commandment applies to all believers, not just the disciples. By being baptized, we are obeying Jesus and fulfilling His commandments.

2. It is a public declaration of faith.

Baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. When we are baptized, we proclaim to the world that we have given our lives to Jesus and are committed to following Him. It is a way of telling others that we have died to our old selves and have been raised to new life in Christ. In Romans 6:4, the apostle Paul writes, "We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."

3. It is a symbol of our salvation.

Baptism is also a symbol of our salvation. Baptism does not save us, it is only a visual representation of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When we are baptized, we are identifying with Jesus in His death and resurrection. It is a way of saying that we have been saved by His grace and are now a part of His family. 

Baptism is an essential step for every believer. It is a commandment from Jesus, a public declaration of faith, and a symbol of our salvation.
