December 6: Nothing is Little When God Is In It

Pastor Bob Calhoun

“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me One Who is to be Ruler in Israel, Whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.”

Micah 5:2, ESV

I am often impressed by things that are large and have occasionally thought big is better. There are times when big things enable big accomplishments. However, today’s Scripture reminds us that while we have a big God, He is all about the little things. God’s promise of a Messiah, our greatest source of hope, is woven throughout the Old Testament narrative.  God chose the “too little” town of Bethlehem to be the birthplace of the “ruler in Israel.” That is a notable contrast: from the small and insignificant would come the greatest and most significant of all.

When we feel small and insignificant we would do well to remember that God is all about the small things. He used small numbers, small people, small gifts, and small moments to do what only He could do. In fact, nothing—people, place, or thing—is small when God is in it. We can do anything God wants us to do. If God can take a farm boy from North Carolina and make a Billy Graham out of him, He can do something with you and me.

Father in Heaven, increase my hope and help me to see Jesus at work in the little things.
