Looking to get out of the house now that the holidays are over? Whether you are a bookworm or a runner, there is something for everyone at these winter events. So gather your family and friends and take the plunge and have some fun!

The Tybee Polar Plunge

Jan. 1, 2020, 12 noon, Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, Tybee Island, Georgia
You can join other daring people and take the plunge into the brisk Atlantic Ocean on New Year’s Day. Adults $25, kids under 12, $15. Admission includes a souvenir long-sleeve t-shirt.

Resolution Run 5K & 10K

Jan. 11, 2020, 10 a.m., Dataw Island, South Carolina

Visit beautiful Dataw Island for the 9th Annual Resolution Run 5K & 10K to benefit LowCountry Habitat for Humanity. Participants will love the fast, flat course. Awards will be given to first place finishers in eight categories and first, second and third overall. Both events begin at 10 a.m. in front of the Dataw Island Community Center.

Hilton Head Snow Day

Jan. 25, 2020, 11 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Shelter Cove Community Park, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 

Your kids will have a blast at this family event with inflatable rides, a snowfield, and entertainment! Kids, ages 2-17, $10. Adults, free.

Savannah Book Festival

Feb. 13-16, 2020, Savannah, Georgia

Hosted in a handful of Savannah’s oldest buildings downtown, the Savannah Book Festival attracts close to 10,000 people from around the globe to celebrate all things books for one weekend each year. The festival invites incredibly well-known authors as well as emerging writers to participate with signings, meet-and-greets and special speeches.

2020 Irish Heritage Celebration Parade

March 14, 2020, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tybee Island, Georgia

Tybee Island will be decked out in green with a family-friendly parade including floats, marchers and musical bands. Families are encouraged to dress in green and celebrate. The fun starts at 3 p.m. at the Tybee City Hall and proceeds down Butler Avenue to Tybrisa Street and is free and open to the public.
