Are You in It for the Long Haul?
By Ginny Chambers
“If any man comes after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me.”
– Matthew 16:24
As I endeavored to organize my closet recently, I was reminded of this saying: “in it for the long haul.” The meaning of this adage is having the determination to continue with something until it is finished successfully. To do this, we often make ambitious plans on out how to get from point A to point B. We also look for the tools and measurements that we need for success.
Being in it for the long haul can also be applied to our faith walk. God desires a relationship with all of us, but He will never force Himself on us. Salvation is a gift from God, and it’s up to us to accept His gift with all the benefits. There are so many treasures that our Lord has for each and every one of us.
God wants us to be more than Sunday Christians. We need to put away the unholy worldly influences and surrender daily to the Lordship of Jesus. Will it take sacrifice? Yes, and there may even be pain along the way. But you can take comfort in knowing that God will never put you to shame. So, stay in your walk of faith for the long haul, and you will receive a great reward.
