Staying On Course

By Ginny Chambers

A few months ago, I drove to Pennsylvania. I was full of anticipation because I was picking up my granddaughters to spend the summer with me in the Lowcountry. Before my trip, I printed out a map, and I used a GPS travel app so that I wouldn’t get lost.

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a technology that we now take for granted. Invented in the 1970s, GPS was first used by the U.S. Armed Forces. Today, you can download apps that use GPS to find where you are going, track where your children are, and there’s even an app that will tell you where your dog is.

As believers, we also have GPS: God’s Protection System. Our road map is the Bible, and heaven is our destination. God directs us and always knows where we are. His GPS also prepares our hearts for whatever is happening in our lives. If you happen to bear off course, God will always lead you back. Our part in this protection is trusting that God will do what He has promised. And what has He promised? The Bible tells us:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” – Psalm 119:5 (It doesn’t matter how dark your situation can be. God’s Word is a lamp. It was designed to get you out of dark places.)

“Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. –  Psalms 119:133

“You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.”  – Psalms 73:24

There are so many examples of God’s promises and protection throughout the Bible. God knows what is best for us. All we need to do is ask and trust Him. My prayer for you is to make your heart ready for what God reveals. Stay on course with God’s Protection System, and you will be forever changed.
