There is a River

By Ginny Chambers

Lately, I have been drawn back to listening to old hymns. Sure, today’s Christian music is good, but, for me, there really is nothing like a hymn to usher in the presence of God.

During this time in my life, the lyrics of one hymn especially speak to me:

There is a River that flows from deep within
There is a fountain that frees the soul from sin
So come to this water, there is a vast supply
Come to the River that never will run dry. [1]

In today’s world, the way sometimes seems long and weary. So many people are exhausted and burdened by the difficulties of life. There is only one sure cure for this world-weariness, and that is Jesus, the River of Life. He is the only Fountain that can quench our weary souls. The Bible tells us about this living water:

And he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb ... ” – Revelation 22:1

“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”John 7:37-38

With the changes happening all around us, there is cause for weariness, but God offers us His refreshing living water. So come, be renewed, refreshed and strengthened as you dive into the River that never will run dry.
