How To Tell Your Friends and Family About Jesus

(Fourth of a five-part series on the Core Values of LowCountry Community Church)
Mark 2 is the story of four friends determined to bring a paralyzed man to Jesus. When they found the house where Jesus was teaching crowded beyond capacity, they didn’t turn back. Instead, they climbed to the roof, dug a hole, and lowered their friend down in front of Jesus. Their compassion led to bold action, and their faith resulted in the man’s physical healing and spiritual forgiveness.
From this story, we can see four steps to take when our compassion for others drives us to action:
Pray for Your “One”
Compassion starts with prayer. Who is the person in your life that needs Jesus? Begin by lifting them up in prayer. Ask God to soften their heart and open doors for meaningful conversations.
Build Relationships
The four friends knew the man well enough to care deeply about his situation. In the same way, building a relationship with your “one” is essential. Get to know them beyond surface-level interactions. Genuine relationships open the door to deeper conversations.
Spark Conversations
Engaging in honest and sometimes vulnerable conversations can be the first step toward inviting someone to explore faith. You don’t have to have all the answers—just be willing to listen, share your story, and show you care.
Extend an Invitation
Like the friends who brought the paralyzed man to Jesus, you can play a crucial role by extending an invitation. It might be inviting someone to church, a small group, or simply to explore faith through a discussion. Even a small invitation can lead to a life-changing encounter.
Compassion without action falls short of its purpose. The four friends didn’t just feel bad for their paralyzed friend—they took intentional, creative, and bold steps to bring him to Jesus. That same drive can compel us to take small but meaningful actions in our relationships.
Who is one person in your life that you need to take these steps for? Whether it’s a coworker, neighbor, or family member, start today by praying, building a relationship, sparking a conversation, and extending an invitation. Compassion is the first step—what action will you take next?
