Four Ways Parents Can Embrace Back To School Season

by Tabitha Tuner

Summer with my family always seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. We explored our local area, spent lazy days at the beach, and probably stayed up way too late. It was a refreshing escape from the chaos of the school year.

But before we knew it, the first day of school would sneak up on us. Suddenly, my family was thrown back into the whirlwind of sports, school events, carpool, and all the other joys of the school year.

Jerry Seinfeld got it right when he said, "I am so busy doing nothing... that the idea of doing anything—which, as you know, always leads to something—cuts into the nothing and then forces me to drop everything."

During this hectic transition, I often found myself tangled in tasks that didn't really matter. My calendar looked like a game of Tetris gone wrong because I couldn't say no, leaving us too busy to focus on what really mattered.

Here are a few strategies that helped my family not only survive the chaos but also thrive and develop some new healthy habits:

  1. Simplify.

Focus on what truly matters and let go of non-essential activities.

  2. Set Boundaries.

Learn to say no to commitments that don't align with your family's priorities.

  3. Create a Routine.

Establish a consistent schedule that balances activities, rest, and family time.

  4. Incorporate Healthy Habits.

Make time for church, exercise, healthy eating, and relaxation to maintain overall well-being.

By embracing these strategies, my family found that the busy season became more manageable and even enjoyable, giving us a more balanced and fulfilling family life. So, here's to surviving—and thriving—through the hustle!
