What’s Your Excuse?

If you were driving into the LCC parking lot on a recent Sunday morning, you may have done a double-take at the man directing traffic. That is because Jordan Forrest was standing in the parking lot directing cars while balancing himself on crutches.

“I broke my ankle, my fibula, and tore my ACL,” says Jordan. “I’m going to be in a cast starting tomorrow for about three months, but I asked if they could put it off for a couple of days so that I could come and serve here. My main focus is just making sure I get here and park cars, and serve, and smile, and get a little coffee in me.”

Jordan recently moved back to Bluffton and says he has found his home at LCC. “To be quite honest, if it weren’t for LowCountry, I would’ve been dead a long time ago. I’ve definitely had my trials and tribulations. But this is where I found my home. I just love it here,” he says. “I grew up in the church, but it’s been many years since I’ve found a home like this. It’s just incredible.”

Jordan also volunteers on Tuesday nights with the LCC students. He says that when he first moved back to Bluffton, he was encouraged by his parents to volunteer at LCC. “My stepdad said, ‘Hey, why don’t you come and help park cars on Sunday mornings?’ I said, ‘You know what, that doesn’t sound like any fun,’” Jordan says with a laugh. “But I came and I did it, and then I was like wow that’s how I need to spend my Sunday mornings. For the last three months, that is what I’ve been doing. I love it.”

If you are thinking about volunteering at LCC, Jordan says don’t think about it, just do it. “You are going to find time for the things that are most important in your life no matter how busy you are. Volunteering changed my entire life honestly. Giving back, being of service, is what Jesus preached,” he explains. “Jesus found time while saving the entire world to be of service to other people. I think that for me if I am being even a percentage of what He was like, then I am fulfilling my mission as a Christian.”
