You Are Called To Bless


You have been shaped to serve God and you bless other people when you do. You likely have a desire to do something meaningful with your life, but may struggle to know what that is. Living with a purpose must start with knowing you are God’s unique masterpiece. There’s nobody like you in the world, and you were created in Christ Jesus to do good works. Trusting in Christ for salvation means you are a minister of the gospel, called and equipped to help others and to honor God.

UNDERSTANDING

  • What is a situation in which you tend to take the initiative to do what needs to be done and serve others? What is a situation in which you tend to sit back and let someone else do what needs to be done and serve? Explain

  • What is the dirtiest job you have ever done? Would you be willing to do it again? Why or why not?

  • Describe a time when someone served you in a profound way, doing something for you that you absolutely did not want to do. How did that make you feel?

  • In what sense is every believer in Christ a “minister”? If every believer is a “minister,” what would you say is your ministry?

  • Why do you think it is difficult for many believers to think of themselves in this way, as uniquely called by God to serve others for His purpose and glory?

  • Respond to the following statement about your vocation: “If you are a Christian, you are to serve for two reasons—to honor God and to help others.”

  • Paul was in prison when he penned these words. Why was Paul thinking about serving others when he was the one facing difficulty?

  • Besides being in prison, what do you think Paul sacrificed in order to minister to the early believers? How did his sacrifice impact them?

  • How was Paul’s service to others a reason for joy?

  • Based on Phil 2:17, how would you say Paul viewed his life? What is challenging to you about taking that perspective?

  • If you were to die today, what legacy would you leave?

  • What legacy does Scripture infer we should be aiming to leave? Why?

  • In this week’s message, we learned that “meaning comes from ministry...from serving...from giving your life away.” How have you experienced this in your own life?

  • We also learned in this week’s message that the Father honors and blesses those who serve Him (John 12:26). What blessing(s) have you experienced by serving others?

    APPLICATION

  • Pastor Jeff said, “You’ve got three choices. You can spend your life, you can waste your life, or you can invest your life.” Which would you say you’ve been doing lately? Explain.

  • We were all challenged to minister to our community by serving at one of our six Christmas Eve services. If you’ve done that in previous years, share that experience with the group.

  • How can you put feet to the call to serve in your family?

  • What role does God have for you? If you’re unsure, what steps can you take to find out?
