Keeping Your Life In Perspective
You can call this a life of storms if you wish. But if you see the glorious redemption of eternity ahead of you, you can call it what it is only in Christ—a life of good hope.
KEY VERSES
2 Timothy 4:6-8 (NASB)
6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. 8 In the future there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
UNDERSTANDING
When have you had a change in perspective about something or someone (ex. a professional athlete you didn’t like, a job you thought you’d love, a decision you thought was the right one, etc.)? What brought this change about?
Generally, would you say your perspective in life lately is positive or negative? Why?

Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. Solomon reminds us that there is “a time to give birth (some translations say ‘be born’) and a time to die” (v. 2). Why is it important for us to be aware of this?
What do the contrasting times Solomon mentioned in verses 2-8 teach you about perspective?
Paul knew his time on earth was about to come to an end. How did Paul describe his faith walk during his time on earth?
What are the metaphors of a fight and a race meant to teach us about life?
What does it mean to “finish the course” in terms of living for Jesus Christ?
At the end of your life, what do you want to be able to say about your time on earth? What do you want to say about your faith walk?
What steps do you need to take to make those things a reality?
Why did Paul want Timothy (and you) to keep in mind the future reward that is waiting for those who live for Christ?
What does it mean for a person to “love His (Jesus’) appearing”?
How would loving and longing for Jesus’ appearance impact your daily life and ministry?
