December 13: The Pathway of Faith

Luke Logsdon, Associate Worship Pastor

“For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes

from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

Romans 10:16b-17, ESV

Have you ever tried to do a puzzle while wearing a blindfold? What about trying ice cream samples when your tongue is numb? Have you ever tried tuning an instrument while wearing noise-canceling headphones? The answer is most definitely no. Why? Our senses play such an important role in how we operate in these scenarios.

Let’s think of our faith like tuning a musical instrument. Before you can create music or play any song, you need to adjust each string by listening closely, making sure each string is in tune with the other and set to the right note. The avenue to creating music is tuning, much like the avenue to faith is hearing the Word of Christ.

In today’s passage, Paul tells us how we are to respond to the Gospel. We are called not to be passive listeners but to be actively engaged with the story of Jesus. It is our belief in God and the truth of His Word, coming together with our actions. We have been called to fully submit ourselves to what we hear from His Word. This is the pathway of faith! Our faith is rooted in the proclamation of the Gospel, and the act of hearing is a vital part of our salvation.

As you walk through this season of Advent, preparing for the birth of Christ, set aside time to read a passage from the Gospels that speaks of Jesus’ birth and His ministry. Think about how these words deepen your faith. Consider sharing with a friend or family member how these Scriptures inspire hope and trust in Jesus in your life, encouraging a deeper conversation about faith during this season.

Lord, thank you for the gift of Your Word. Help me to be an active listener. I pray that Your Word would dwell richly in my heart and the actions of my faith would be a reflection of my trust in You and will be a witness to those around me. Amen.
