December 12: Like a Child
Jon Merkel, Film Director
“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”
Luke 1:45, NASB
When Mary believed in what the Lord said, this wasn’t merely an intellectual thought or some exercise in ritual. It wasn’t born out of requirement or necessity but rather a true sense of conviction and trust. She believed it entirely without doubt.
If you have ever made a promise to a child as a parent, you probably have learned how a child holds on to that promise. If you promised to take your child to Disney next year, you can be assured the child won’t be thinking about whether you’d be able to afford it, how you are going to get there, or anything else that may prohibit it.
Later in Luke, Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” (Luke 17:18 NLT)
As we navigate this season, let us be reminded of Mary's faith —that of unquestionable conviction that God would do what he said.
